All About Marc Johns A good graphic designer
does more than make things look pretty. He or she must help the client communicate,
and understand the language of business and marketing. Thankfully, I've been trained
in both... I graduated from Bishop's University with an Honours in Fine
Arts, and a Major in Business Administration. My Art professors thought I was
taking too many Business courses. My Business profs thought I was spending too
much time in the painting studio. Let's just say I was the only guy in accounting
class with paint-stained hands and an oversized portfolio leaning against my desk.
A good designer is more than just a list of software skills. But here's my
list, in case you're curious: |
Software:
Illustrator CS2 Photoshop CS2 ImageReady CS2 InDesign CS2 Dreamweaver
HTML Word Excel Flash | Other
Skills: English-French Translation* Creative Writing* Marketing
Consulting Drawing - Pen & Ink Watercolour Painting Acrylic Painting
Dealing with printers (an artform in itself) Photography* |
* I am by no means a professional translator, writer, or photographer. But from
time to time, I've been asked to play one of these roles. Although I can't translate
Shakespeare into French and do it justice, I can help a client in a pinch to have
both official languages on their packaging. I can write decent copy, and I can
take good product photos. I can do more than give you good design. I
can provide complete solutions. See my portfolio
for examples of my work. |
